DURGOTSAV 2008--- Preparations in Jorhat

On 29th of September, Monday morning the Durga Puja festival was flagged off in Jorhat, along with other parts of the country, by a grand festive mood among people and a colorful procession which was organized by the Central Puja Committee. The main attraction of that cultural procession was the eye catching Sovayatra by the PRAGATI Puja Committee who are celebrating their Golden Jubilee this year.
The main attraction of Pragati’s puja will be the 55 Dhakis playing the Dhak (Drum) all together. All the Dhakis are invited from Kolkata. Other than this a huge idol, light work of famous Chandan Nagar, attractive cultural programs as well as a beautifully designed Mandap will also surely attract people during four days Puja festival which will be started on 6th of this month.
Along with Pragati’s Golden Jubilee puja some other puja pandals will hopefully able to attract Devotees in Jorhat. Pandals of JPR Sarbajanin Durga puja Committee, Rupohali, Jagorani, Horisobha Puja Mandir, Sree Bharati Puja Mandir, Banshbari Puja Mandir, Jorhat Theater, Jorhat Junction, Fancy Ali every year they stage the puja with their unique theme and gorgeous Devi idols.
